Rupert R. Seel, Founder and Director

Rupert Seel prospected from the 1940s when he started accompanying his father on projects in Central BC. His formal prospecting experience commenced in 1945 when he undertook prospecting for Consolidated Mining and Smelting (now Cominco).

Rupert's career spanned over 50 years, with much of his time at McElhanney Consulting Services Ltd. and its predecessors, starting in 1951 until his retirement in 1993.
Rupert's expertise included:

  • Construction surveys and feasibility of transportation studies for virtually all new mines in BC from the late 1950s to 1972,

  • The original Kitimat/ Kemano project for Alcan and Kemano II,

  • Surveying, construction of roads, and concentrator layouts for several mines including Huckleberry, Zeballos Iron, Beaver Cove Iron, BC Moly and North East Coal.

Upon retirement from McElhanney's Consulting Services in 1993, Rupert became more active in the prospecting field, most recently with numerous claims throughout the Central BC area (primarily large Porphyrys with large tonnage for open pitting so as to be best for commercialization.)
Rupert has been active in several related pursuits over the years:

  • During the late 1950s and 1960s, he was President of Kitimat Copper, a public company engaged in exploring for copper primarily in the Kitimat Valley and Texada Island.

  • In the early 1960s, he became a Director and shareholder of McElhanney's and served as Manager of Engineering Surveys.

  • In 1972, he staked the first mineral claim on the Lansdowne Property (now Seel Claims) with gold / copper showings. About $4 million has been spent to date with the resource virtually determined based on a preliminary feasibility study.) The property was optioned to Grayd Resources in 2002 and subsequently to Gold Reach Resources in 2005.

When he was not in Central BC investigating potential mineral properties, Rupert lived in Sechelt, BC close to his children and grandchildren. Rupert passed away in June 2017.
